A booking can contain several financial components. The overall total may look balanced while an accommodation payment, guest charge or refund is recorded against the wrong component. Use the booking’s records to check both the amount and what it represents.
Check the split as well as the total
A matching total does not prove that accommodation and guest-charge amounts are allocated correctly. Confirm each component against the booking and payment evidence before changing a record.

Understand the components
A booking may include accommodation, guest charges such as cleaning or other services, and deductions such as commission or fees. Which party receives or bears each amount depends on the booking arrangements and configured fee treatment; the same allocation should not be assumed for every property or channel.
The Payment Record shows the booking’s expected charges, receipts and their allocation. The Statement shows the financial transactions recorded for the booking, including payments and refunds. Bank reconciliation confirms recorded transactions against bank activity; it does not by itself prove that every booking component was allocated to the right category.
Compare the records
- Open the booking and review its Payment Record. Check accommodation and each guest charge separately, including refunds or adjustments.
- Compare the amounts with the Statement and the source booking or payment evidence. Identify which transaction represents each amount.
- For a payment batch covering several bookings, trace each booking’s share to the source settlement and bank transaction. Do not treat a grouped bank deposit as one booking payment.
- Review the property’s fee setup if a deduction or guest-charge allocation is unexpected. Fee arrangements can differ by property and channel.
If amounts do not match
A release warning or difference can point to a missing, duplicated or misclassified component. Check the source and both BookingTrust records before making a correction. Do not add a balancing charge, delete a reconciled transaction or change a refund merely to make the total agree; ask Support to review the booking when the evidence does not establish the correct allocation.
