After closing a month, compare BookingTrust’s month-end figures with the Trial Balance and 3-Way Report. Review the same bank account and month throughout, and investigate any difference before relying on the report set.
Compare the same month and account
A current owner-report preview, an earlier disbursement report and the month-end Trial Balance answer different questions. Use the saved month-end reports for this check.

Open the month-end report set
- Go to Trust Account > End of Month.
- Find the required month and check the account and period shown. Note its Opening, Credits, Debits and Closing figures.
- Select the report title to view it, or its download arrow to save the file. Open the Trial Balance and 3-Way Report for that same month.
| Report | Use it to check… |
|---|---|
| Trial Balance | The ledger totals at the month boundary, including opening balances and movement through the month. |
| 3-Way Report | The relationship between the bank, cashbook and trust-ledger balances, including any reconciling items shown. |
| Deposits and Withdrawals | The underlying received and paid transaction details when investigating the month’s movements. |
Compare the month-end totals
- On the Trial Balance, find Trial Balance Totals at the bottom. Its Opening, Credit, Debit and Balance correspond to the listing’s Opening, Credits, Debits and Closing figures.
- Open the 3-Way Report and check its result: Trust Ledger Balances or Trust Ledger DOES NOT Balance. If it does not balance, record the difference for investigation.
- Check the bank/cashbook reconciliation section and any outstanding or reconciling items shown. Compare the reconciled result rather than assuming every intermediate bank figure must be identical.
- Keep the report set and the supporting bank statement together with your completed review records.
If the closing figures differ: the Trial Balance’s final Balance can include a deduction for unconfirmed debit items. Check outstanding/unconfirmed withdrawals and the report’s basis before treating a difference as missing money.
If figures do not agree
- Check the month, account and report period first. Make sure you have not compared an owner payout report with the trust-account Trial Balance.
- Use Deposits, Withdrawals, the Cashbook and the bank-reconciliation reports to trace missing, duplicated or incorrectly dated entries.
- Keep held/future-booking balances separate from amounts already released or disbursed. A non-zero ledger balance can represent money still held for a booking.
- Record the exact difference and affected report names. If the month is closed, contact support for the supported correction process rather than changing dates or inserting a balancing entry.
A matching total is a check, not the whole review. Also investigate unusual entries, incorrect property allocations and unresolved questions. For preparation and closing steps, see End-of-month procedure.
When contacting support, include the account reference, month, report names, differing totals and checks already completed. Share only the relevant pages or transaction references.
